Telegraph rates 8 out of 10 for EVOLUTION Lisboa in almost every evaluation

This centrally located, design-centric hotel will tick all the boxes for the tech-savvy business traveller or fun-seeking Millennial, thanks to its urban art, cool lighting and after-work parties. There are also excellent fitness facilities, iMac corners and a 24/7 restaurant.

Location 8 / 10

Well positioned between the airport and downtown Lisbon, and near the central Marquês de Pombal Square, named after the man responsible for rebuilding Lisbon after its devastating earthquake in 1755. The area has several metro and train stations, and the wider avenues also allow free-flowing traffic; a serious problem in the narrow streets nearer the river.

Style and Character 8 / 10

The hotel hums with a young vibe - just the right side of brash. The public areas are brightly coloured, with plenty of orange, pink and purple detailing offsetting the greys and whites of the floors and walls. But as the décor draws on colour rather than ornament to define it, the hotel has more of a business lounge atmosphere than a home-from-home feel.

Service and Facilities 8 / 10

It is not just the facilities available, but the fact that they are so accessible that makes this hotel unique. The fitness centre, swimming pool, steam room, sauna and sensation showers are open round the clock to hotel guests. Self check-in computers provide a fast and seamless arrival. Service from the staff is efficient and friendly.

The lobby acts as a social hub and casual meeting space, with free Wi-Fi, power points and iMacs. There is an open-plan bar, where after-work parties are held from 6.30 on Thursday and Friday evenings.

Each rooms features two opaque capsules which house the loo and the shower respectively. There is a desk and seating area underneath the window and a tablet which controls lighting, curtains and temperatures as well being a multimedia tool for guest use.

Food and Drink 8 / 10

There's a ‘grab & go’ option with snacks such as sandwiches available throughout the day. Lunch during the week is a buffet, keenly priced at €11 (£10) with dishes such as sirloin steak with mashed potato. At the weekends it is à la carte, with the menu drawing on traditional Portuguese dishes.

Dinner is always à la carte. Make sure to try the cod fish risotto (€11/£10) or the chicken and vegetable gyozas (€5/£4). The hotel also has its own artisanal beer - an India pale ale called Evolution.
